Our jeep tour to North Armenia starts with Shirak region. Unlike other southern regions that are rich with mountain forests, here mostly dominate mountain-steppe landscapes.
Here, in Shirak's region many cuneiform writings, ruins of the ancient fortresses and bridges, pre-Christian churches were persisted...
The first place that we're going to visit is one of the most amazing places, where people had lived and built their town many millennials ago. It is an ancient settlement and fortress of Horom(Orom). In the III-II millennium, a fortress and an ancient settlement were standing here. In a huge territory (about 4 sq.km) which the fortress and settlement occupied, people have founded a sacrificial altar, rocks with mysterious signs carved on them, wall ruins and many other things.
After the ancient town we will go to a modern town- to Gyumri, the history of which also goes back to millennials. In this amazingly colorful city with modern buildings, we can see lots of historical buildings that were built in the times of Russian Empire.
In Vahramaberd and Marmarashen, the places that we are going to visit next, many evidences of ancient people's life and medieval monuments are preserved.
Here, in Marmarashen stands one of the most significant medieval monasteries of Armenia- Marmarashen monastery. It was built in the X century and is a valuable example of Armenian architecture.
But the monastery isn't the only thing that this place is famous for. Here, in the territory of Vahramaberd and Marmarashen existed a developed civilization, about what many archeological findings indicate. In Vahramaberd, there is a cuneiform writing of Argishti I, which tells about his conquests.
The night stay will be in tents, near the monastery.
In the next morning we will go to the beauty of South- to the lake Arpi. The lake's surface is 2025 m above sea level which is higher than Sevan's level.
The ecosystem of the lake and the surrounding area have global ecological meaning. Among many rare birds, you can see a black stork here.
It is worth mentioning that it is a territory of national park.
From the territory of Vahramaberd and Marmarashen to Arpi lake and then to the city of Ani, in a historical territory of Armenia, people lived from the ancient times, about what there are many evidences, including loads of megaliths, some of which you may see on your way to the waterfall Trchkan.

The saved fortress was built in the X-XI centuries. But before that, there was a town, where people were busy with farming, fishing, hunting and owned various crafts. The tombs of priests and princes, also of ordinary inhabitants, have been preserved.
